Materials

Materials that look better at forty

Stone, oak, lime and brass: four materials we choose for what the years do to them.

Some materials are at their best on the day the builder leaves. We try not to use them.

Travertine softens, oak darkens, lime render takes on the weather and brass takes on the hand. Each of them looks more settled at forty than at four.

Choosing them costs a little more at the start and much less over the life of the building.
